Se 3 anni fa mi avessero detto che al Nebraska’s War 3.0 sarebbero venuti Richard Garfield, Dan Frazier, Daniel Gelon, Jesper Myrfors e che in 4 giorni di torneo avremmo fatto più di 1200 persone mi sarei sicuramente messo a ridere.
E invece tutto questo è realmente accaduto.. ma andiamo con calma…
Dicembre 2014: subito dopo la fine del Nebraska’s War 2.0 mi attivo per la ricerca di nuovi artisti, la prima scelta ricade su Daniel Gelon che entusiasta accetta subito!
Nel mentre avanzano le trattative per riuscire a far venire anche Richard Garfield che non veniva in Italia dal 2009, ai Mondiali di Roma: parlando varie volte con la sua agente nonché moglie (Koni) riusciamo finalmente a concordare un programma idoneo.
Verso febbraio inoltre facciamo richiesta a Dan Frazier, che avevo (parlo a nome di Michele) già incontrato altre 2 volte e che ricordavo con affetto assieme alla moglie Kathy, conosciuta a Catania nel 2013. La sua conferma è stata particolare: il 14 febbraio, giorno di San Valentino, ha fatto la sorpresa alla moglie dicendole che sarebbero venuti in Italia a dicembre!

Volenterosi di un altro artista riusciamo a distanza di circa 1 mese dal torneo a convicere Jesper Myrfors, fresco di passaporto, a venire assieme agli altri artisti: persona fortemente voluta specialmente dopo averla conosciuta a Siviglia ad agosto di quest’anno, assieme al caro Khan.

con pagamento anticipato, in modo da ridurre fila il giorno del torneo; stessa cosa per le sessioni private con gli artisti!
Qualche giorno prima del torneo ci rechiamo a Villa Ariston portare tutto il materiale, allestire le sale giocatori, venditori&artisti.

Arriva giovedì, giorno dell’arrivo degli artisti:
Garfield in stazione a Viareggio, Frazier a Pisa, Gelon e Myrfors a Firenze.




Dan indossa una giacca di jeans a dir poco strepitosa!


La sera decidiamo insieme di andare al Nebraska, enoteca a Camaiore gestita da Simone, fratello di Stefano Lari), per una cena a base di antipasti fatti in casa, salumi e formaggi tipici toscani: Jesper e Daniel stanchissimi dopo molte ore di viaggio decidono di rimanere in hotel per riposarsi



Dopo cena Richard propone un paio di giochi con e senza carte: una di questi è briscola.
La mattina seguente io e il fedele Khan pronti alla partenza per le 5 Terre,


per mostrare agli artisti la meravigliosa natura del Parco Nazionale





Nel frattempo gli altri dello staff stanno terminando i preparativi nelle sale.


Per le 18 circa ritorniamo in hotel e facciamo riassunto del programma. Gli artisti vanno a dormire presto, tra poche ore inizierà il torneo!

Ci siamo, è il 5 dicembre 2015, sabato. La sveglia suona presto per noi, portiamo il materiale nelle varie sale: penne e segnavite di mkm, pennarelli e pennelli, playmat bianchi e del Nebraska’s War e altro.
Sono le 9, gli artisti iniziano il loro lavoro con qualche firma e piccoli artwork a pennarelli,




la coda per Garfield è lunghissima alle 10 arriva accompagnato dalla moglie e scatta l’applauso



in un paio d’ore parte il Main Event Modern, al via ci sono 303 giocatori!




Dal primo pomeriggio partono le partite in streaming seguite da mtgquality, nel loro canale potete vedere le partite riprese ^^
Nel frattempo inizia anche il side event Legacy, valido come trial per il giorno dopo: 103 players!

Alle 18.30 arriva il primo match di Garfield contro il vincitore della lotteria


Domenica il delirio, inizia il legacy verso le 11: 368 players!


e arrivano i ragazzi che gradano le carte, European Grading che sfortunatamente non sono riusciti ad esserci dal primo giorno

Nel pomeriggio partiranno anche il Main Event Old School, formato in ampia espansione, con ben 62 players e il Tiny Leaders, formato non ancora conosciutissimo, con 11 giocatori.





Sta per concludersi la svizzera del Legacy, ci sono 3 membri del Team Nebraska che rischiano di entrare in Top8: Dini, Bacci e Raffaelli.. purtroppo solo il primo ci riuscirà e porterà a casa il titolo di Campione Legacy del Nebraska’s War 3.0!



Lunedì altro Main Event Modern, 176 giocatori al via, al Pauper 41 giocatori e 36 al Side Event Vintage, trial per il Main Event del giorno dopo.

La sera Richard gioca contro il vincitore del Main Event Old School:



Martedì 8 dicembre si parte con Main Event Vintage 82 persone, seguito da EDH Commander 29 giocatori e 32 il Side Event Legacy.
Alle 10 sarebbe dovuta iniziare la sessione di firme di Garfield ma… alle 9.35 la moglie mi manda un SMS con scritto che Richard sta male e non riuscirà a venire in mattinata.. la maggior parte della gente, giustamente, non è molto contenta, visto che comunque in parecchi erano in fila dalle 7.30-8.00.
Per fortuna tutti capiscono che la colpa non è nostra e che purtroppo non possiamo farci niente…
In pausa pranzo e il buon Khan andiamo a parlare con Richard e la moglie e dopo averli pregati riusciamo a convincerli a fare la sessione pomeridiana ma sfortunatamente per Nicola Dini e Matteo Blasi dovendo rinunciare alle due partite che erano state programmate.


La sera finiscono tutti i tornei e ci ritroviamo con l’HJ per fare il riassunto di questi giorni

Mercoledì io e il buon Khan ci alziamo presto presto (lui in realtà ha fatto after) in quanto Jesper ha il volo alle 7 del mattino da Firenze

Lo abbiamo giocato! E abbiamo scoperto che è un formato LEEEEEEEENTO (ma per me divertente). Personalmente ne ho vinta una, ne ho persa un'altra (contro monoR) e ne ho pattate 2... minaccia, rimozione; minaccia, rimozione; e così via...
